Gagliole Colli della Toscana Centrale Gagliole 2019

All grapes for this wine come from Vigna Grande, the highest vineyard of the Conca d'Oro in Panzano. From in this pure Galestro vineyard you look down on Rampolla, La Massa, Fontodi etc. From 2019, this is pure Sangiovese and all Cabernet goes into the Balisca. The bunches are picked by hand and taken in small boxes a hundred metres down to the cellar, where there is then a rigorous selection of the best grapes. The grapes were not de-stemmed and fermentation takes place partly in barrique and partly in large oak tronconic cuves. The maceration is 25 days for the cuves and up to 45 days in the barriques. The wine then matured for a further 18 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which were new and 80% 2nd passage. Attracting oenologist Paolo Salvi, the man who made Monte Vertine great, the aim here is simply to make the finest wines in Chianti Classico. A unique combination of the finesse of old Sangiovese with the power of Panzano. With each new year, this wine seems to gain even more finesse and power. Maybe this 2019 is the most beautiful Gagliole so far, an intense bouquet with floral and fresh fruit notes, light on its feet but with an intense taste and a delightfully long finish, simply a really great wine!

Vinous (Antono Galloni): "The 2019 Gagliole is 100% Sangiovese from estate vineyards in Panzano. The natural richness of Panzano and extra kick of new French oak yields a wine of volume and textural intensity. Succulent, dark cherry, plum, tobacco, mocha, sweet oak and dried flowers are front and center. There's plenty of immediacy here. i have a slight preference for the more refined expression of Sangiovese found in the Gallule. The 2019 spent 12 months in French oak, 25-30% new, then another 12 months in 12hl casks and cement, 50% each." 94/100
