Product Details

All the grapes for this wine come from Vigna Grande, the highest vineyard of the Conca d'Oro in Panzano. From this pure Galestro vineyard you look down on Castello dei Rampolla, La Massa, Fontodi etc. The blend here is 98% Sangiovese with 2% Cabernet-Sauvignon. The bunches are picked by hand and taken in small boxes a hundred meters below to the cellar, where a strict selection of the best grapes is done. The grapes are not destemmed and the fermentation takes place partly in barrique and partly in large oak tronconic cuves. The maceration is 25 days for the cuves and up to 45 days in the barriques. The wine then matured for another 18 months in French oak barrels of which 20% new and 80% second pass. With the recruitment of oenologist Paolo Salvi, the man who made Monte Vertine, they simply want to make the most beautiful wines from the Classico. A unique combination of the finesse of old Sangiovese with the power of Panzano. This is our most beautiful Gagliole so far! An intense bouquet with floral and fresh fruit notes, a light but intense taste with a delightfully long finish, simply a really great wine!

Vinous (Antono Galloni): "The 2018 Gagliole is 100% Sangiovese from vineyards in Panzano. Rich and layered in the glass, the 2018 is a wine of tremendous character and personality. It offers an intriguing mix of power and energy, with notable aromatic presence and tons of personality. Gravel, leather, tobacco and dried herbs build into the substantial finish. This is an especially wild expression of Sangiovese." 94/100

RP: "Here's an under-the-radar classic from Tuscany that has been in production since 1993. The wine has evolved over the years, and a small part of Cabernet Sauvignon once used in the blend has been removed to favor 100% Sangiovese, starting with this vintage. The 2018 Gagliole sees all its fruit coming from Panzano from a high-density site with schistous galestro soils 450 to 500 meters in elevation. You will recognize pretty mineral notes with crushed stone, dark fruit, spice and grilled herb. The mineral note is terrific, and the wine has a vertical feel, with elegant uplift from the smooth tannins." 95+/100
