Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas 2017

De “basis” Gigondas is alvast een topper: prachtige diepe kleur, heerlijk neus van rood fruit met kruiden, amandel, vrij vol maar heerlijk evenwicht en grote lengte. Onwaarschijnlijk voor een moeilijk jaar, maar Louis offerde de cuvée “Valbelle” geheel op en ook een deel van “Le Claux” ging in deze cuvée. Vooral de heerlijke zuiverheid en “fraicheur” bevalt ons enorm.

Wine Advocate: “Loaded with notes of black olives and black cherries, the full-bodied 2017 Gigondas is rich and velvety in the mouth. I'm not sure it's quite as good as the 2018, but it's certainly no slouch, with a long, silky finish that picks up a hint of cocoa..” 92+/100

Vinous (Josh Raynolds): “Brilliant ruby. Smoky cherry, boysenberry and potpourri scents show very good clarity and pick up a spicy quality with aeration. Intense red and blue fruit flavors are complicated by a floral pastille nuance. Finishes on a gently tannic note, delivering very good energy and spicy thrust. All of the Valbelle fruit was included in this bottling in 2014.” 92+/100

James Suckling: "Wow. This has such attractive dark plums and berries with chocolateand cocoa, as well as ripe red and dark cherries. The complexity anddepth is striking here. The palate carries so much flavor and so muchdetail. So lush. Rich dark fruit, cocoa and red-cherry pip to close.Drink over the next decade or more. This has plenty in the tank." 94/100

With solid concentration, building yet ripe tannins,and a great finish, you’ll be thrilled to have a case in the cellar. A blend of 70% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvèdre, the 2017 Gigondas is a sexy, ripe effort in aforward, already approachable style. Notes of black raspberries, graphite, pepper, and garrigue alldominate the bouquet, and it’s going to drink nicely right out of the gate." 93/100
